Lakshmi Devi, a resident of Jorakath village, had always been drawn to art due to her mother-in-law doing it on wall as cultural practices during harvesting festival and marriage ceremony but lacked the resources to pursue her passion to get fine quality to bring it on sellable products. When the Sohrai Kohvar art training by SIDBI’S project care was introduced to her village, she eagerly joined the group. Under the guidance of skilled mentors, Lakshmi honed her artistic skills and developed a unique style that blended traditional motifs with contemporary elements. With newfound confidence, she started showcasing her artwork at local exhibitions and online platforms. Her dedication and talent caught the attention of art enthusiasts, and she soon received orders for custom pieces from across the country. Today, Lakshmi Devi’s name is synonymous with exquisite Sohrai Kohvar art, and her success story stands as an inspiration for aspiring artisans in her village for youngsters.

Sajwa Devi – Empowering the Next Generation:

Sajwa Devi, an old artisan, found her life transformed through the Sohrai Kohvar art training. Armed with her existing skills, she began creating vibrant art pieces that beautifully depicted the cultural heritage of her village. However, Rajeshwari’s impact extended beyond her artistic achievements. Recognizing the importance of the art, she started to mentor new generations with the techniques & stories of the art behind to support & flourish the art to a wider audience. Through her dedication and generosity, several trainees who once struggled to do fine bold lines & strokes in the painting are now thriving in the art. Her commitment to empowering the next generation has earned her the respect and admiration of her community. She soon visualize to open a local shop at her home to showcase the sohrai kohvar contemporary products that her community learned during the SIDBI training, like the Raghu Rajpur Orissa village. & later in Hazaribagh & Ranchi with the help of Govt or district administration.

 

Lalita Devi – From Isolation to Entrepreneurship:

Lalita Devi, a shy and introverted woman from Jorakath village, found her voice and purpose through the Sohrai Kohvar art training. Initially hesitant to participate, Lalita Didi gradually developed a passion for the art form and excelled in creating intricate designs. With the support of the training program, she not only polished her artistic skills but also learned the nuances of entrepreneurship. Armed with this knowledge, Didi is planning to launch her own brand, showcasing her Sohrai Kohvar art creations to a broader audience. Her journey from isolation to entrepreneurship became a beacon of hope for women in her village who, like her, had once felt confined by their circumstances.

Sita Kumari – Journey of being alone to Empowering community

Sita, a widowed Sohrai artisan, lived with her brother and his family. After receiving training from SIDBI, she honed her skills and began creating exquisite Sohrai artwork. Her dedication and talent caught the eye of art enthusiasts, leading to her work being showcased at prestigious exhibitions. Sita’s newfound success not only transformed her life but also inspired other women in her community to pursue their artistic passions. She even bought her own smartphone, learned voice typing during the training, and became digitally confident, allowing her to explore craft market products through her mobile device, further expanding her horizons. Today, she stands as a testament to the power of resilience and entrepreneurship.
